BYU Student gets booted :: essays research papers
B.Y.U. Student Gets Booted à à à à à Could you imagine being twenty years old , trying to discover yourself, and then being punished for it? Weather you saw it happen on MTV or you heard about it in the news most of us have heard about ex-Real World cast member Julie Stoffer, and the controversy surrounding her appearance on the popular MTV reality show. à à à à à Julie Stoffer was born on July 11th 1979 in Provo, Utah. The daughter of devote members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Julie followed in her parents footsteps and decided to attend Brigham Young University. A business major and straight A student Julies responded to an advertisement to audition for MTVââ¬â¢s The Real World printed in the university newspaper during her junior year. Julie told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that she never really thought she would be picked for the show and the free trip to Los Angeles for the audition finals was what she was really after. ââ¬Å" When I went to L.A. it was just life-changing. I got out there and I saw a whole new world Iââ¬â¢ve never seen before. I met some really cool people, and I realized, if this experience could be this cool in a couple of days, imagine four months in a new place with new people. I just wanted to see new things, see what I wasnââ¬â¢t seeing in Provo. Julie also ad mitted that she hadnââ¬â¢t had that much exposure to MTV. ââ¬Å" Iââ¬â¢d seen a couple of episodes of ââ¬Å"The Real Worldâ⬠at a friends house, but that was itâ⬠she told the Deseret News. à à à à à Upon entering Belfort Mansion, in New Orleans Julie was immediately faced with the change she had been looking for. Among her roommates Julie found two minorities, and an openly gay male. Most of whom had a set of moral values that were considerably different than hers. From the moment she stepped into the Real World house Julie began dispelling stereotypes associated with Mormonism. During the first hour she is asked if she is married and about weather or not she can drink caffeine. Although it seemed she was uncomfortable answering these questions she did anyway. Julie has said that ââ¬Å" I went into this saying that I was not going to be a representative for Mormonismâ⬠however she later recognizes that ââ¬Å" ..in being my religion I am a representative of it.

Initiation and Maturity in John Updike A&P
In John Updikeââ¬â¢s short story ââ¬Å"A&Pâ⬠, the main character, Sammy, is a young man working for a grocery store over the summer. When he is confronted by a trio of young women shopping the store wearing nothing but their bathing suits, Sammy is keenly interested, as any male teenager would be.He realizes that, in a small town grocery store in the 1960s, such attire is not socially acceptable, yet his hormones dictate that he follow their every move with his eyes and contemplate the adverse reaction of others in the store.ââ¬Å"A&Pâ⬠is a story about initiation into adulthood because by standing up for the girls against his bossââ¬â¢s rudeness, Sammy finds his own voice for the very first time. He realizes he is entitled to his own opinion, and that rebelling against authority figures brings personal satisfaction, but it will also be difficult for him to be complacent in other jobs in the years ahead. At nineteen, Sammy is old enough to know what society expects f rom him but he is also young enough to feel a sense of dissatisfaction with the dictates of his elders. As he thinks when Lengel is chastising the girls, ââ¬Å"Policy is what the kingpins want. What the others want is juvenile delinquencyâ⬠(Updike, 35).In other words Lengel is the kingpin, in control of the policy, while Sammy is part of ââ¬Å"the othersâ⬠who merely want a glimpse of a girlââ¬â¢s anatomy not normally revealed. It is Sammyââ¬â¢s view that his bossââ¬â¢s policy is without merit and he tells Lengel so. This is a defining moment in Sammyââ¬â¢s life in that it is the first time he defends his beliefs, which are contrary to authority, by clearly stating his own opinion.Sammy also finds some satisfaction in rebelling against his boss. He wants his statement, ââ¬Å"I quitâ⬠(Updike, 35) to be heard by everyone in the store ââ¬â his co-worker, the girls, the other patrons. In this way, he can make a rather dramatic exit and prove he is in control of his own life. The idea of being a rebel appeals to Sammy. He wants to shout his newfound maturity to the world; he wants to see everyoneââ¬â¢s reaction to this initiation into adulthood.Sammy does two things which allow him to grow during the course of the story ââ¬â he states his opinion and he acts in a rebellious manner. He has a realization regarding ââ¬Å"how hard the world was going to be to me hereafterâ⬠(Updike, 36) and it is this which best expresses his maturity and signifies the beginning of his initiation into adulthood.Work CitedUpdike, John. ââ¬Å"A & P.â⬠Literature: Reading Fiction, Poetry, and Drama. Rene Castellani
In 1965, Rene Castellani was working as a radio promotions manager on his show ââ¬Å"The Dizzy Dialerâ⬠in New Westminster, and slowly killing his wife, Esther Castellani, by poisoning her with arsenic. This had been going on for a period of several months with no one noticing, not even the doctors. Mrs. Castellani had gone to the hospital many times but doctors could not discover what was causing her illness. After having been sick for nine months Mrs. Castellani died on July, 11 1965.The autopsy report showed that Mrs. Castellani had died from ââ¬Å"a viral infection and heart attack. â⬠Several months after her burial, a woman named Adelaide Miller, presumably Reneââ¬â¢s accomplice, who planned to marry him after Rene had collected the insurance money, contacted the Crown Attorney and said she knew how Mrs. Castellani was killed. She and Rene Castellani had been having an affair from approximately the fall 1964 to the spring of 1966. Both Adelaide Miller and Rene Ca stellani were poisoning Mrs.Castellani with arsenic. Authorities exhumed the body of Mrs. Castellani on August 3rd, 1965 from the cement crypt of Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Municipality of Burnaby, and delivered it to a morgue in Vancouver where a post? mortem examination was conducted by Dr. Thomas Redo Harmon. Tests known as ââ¬Å"X-ray diffractionâ⬠procedures were done. The results showed that the arsenic levels in her body were high enough to kill her. During the trial, which took place on 26 September 1967, Dr.Moscovitch, who treated Mrs. Castellani, said he had never considered arsenic poisoning. Dr. Moscovitch said: ââ¬Å"The possibility of arsenic never occurred to us at all. â⬠Of all the 125 clinical tests that had been performed during her illness, none had identified arsenic. Subsequently, Mr. Castellani was arrested, sentenced for murder on November 12, 1966, found guilty, and sentenced to death, which was later changed to life in prison. Rene Castell ani died on January 4, 1982.

Help Graduates Avoid Financial Ruin
Emigration Sana Hasan Emigration is a way to move from one country to another to live and work. Throughout history emigration has played a major role in the formation of different cultures that exist today. It has been a phenomenon as common as any other basic need of human been. Nowadays, many people decide to emigrate to have a better life. Those people live in bad conditions make them put the emigration as a best solution for their problems. In spite of the fact that this step may cost them their lives, they will not hesitate to hazard. They are looking for place they can achieve their dreams in it and they make their children have better opportunities to build their lives. During last decades, we can see strong waves of emigration. There are many things cause emigration like employment opportunities, education opportunities, and wars. Employment opportunities are most common reason that people decide to emigrate. Many countries canââ¬â¢t provide jobs for their people, or they g ive educated people low salaries which guide them and their families to live in poverty. Therefore, people prefer emigrate to other countries which have variety kind of jobs and as a result people will have a lot of opportunities to find a job. Moreover, finding a job in other countries will probably lead to have high salary. For instance, the emigration of Mexican people to the United States. The emigration can lead people to a better life with high possibility of personal development. It can improve the economy of a certain country. For instance, in Egypt when people emigrate to work in other countries, they send part of their salary to their families. Therefore, this amount of money will help to improve the economy. It might cause a brain drain. The skilled and educated people such as doctors, lawyers, engineers, and teachers of undeveloped and poor countries often emigrate to rich and more developed ones. One of the most important causes for emigration is the war. There are many v arious of wars. The two severe wars are religionââ¬â¢s war and civil war. When one of these wars happens, the situations in the country will deteriorate. Destruction will be everywhere and the people will lose their basic rights. The families in these countries try to insure a safety life for their members. Therefore, a lot of families prefer to emigrate to another country. They are trying to protect their children from involved in these situations. The people who lead these wars they donââ¬â¢t distinguish between a kid and an old person or a woman and a man. They kill everything they found in their way. They destroy everything. The conflict escalates and guides the country to the collapse. Therefore, a lot of people leave their country and looking for safety place to live in.That obviously happens in the most Africanââ¬â¢s countries and in the Middle East countries. For instance, what happened in the second Iraq war is a great example for that. A lot of families left their homes and their jobs when violence speared everywhere. Finally, there are so many causes for emigration that force people to leave their homes and sometimes their families to find a place they can achieve their dreams in it. Among all the causes we can figure a main cause which guide to the others; it is the governments. If each government put the people benefits in the first rank, no one would suffer and all the people will have a good life standard. They can avoid a lot of disasters if they think in correct way and forget their tyrannical. Therefore, instead of spending a big fortune for the weapons, they can use this fortune in other thing like develop the economy, create a lot of jobs, raise the salaries, and develop education system. Also they can avoid wars by finding another solution for their conflicts.
The Oddysey Land of the Dead
Oddyseus started to seak to the spirits of the promising to sacrifice his best cow before she had her calve. Then he promised to sacrifice a black lamb whick was the finest in his heard. After promising to sacrifice the animals he did it. The spirits started to gather at the edge of Erebus, the place where the dead reside. The spirits included those of the young and the old; male and female. There were also many warriors who were still in possesion of their armor and weaponry. The spirits started to try to escape from the pit of Erebus. Oddyseus told his men to skin the animal that they had killed and make them into offering for Hades and Persephone, the god and godess of the dead who reside in the underworld. He sat waiting with his sword out to defend himself from the from the spirits until he noticed te presence of Tieresias, a blind prophet from Thebes, who came forward and spoke to Oddyseus. Tieresias asked him why he was in the land of the dead and to put down his sword. Then the prophet said that he wanted to taste the blood of the sacrifice he had made. Oddyseus stepped aside and sheathed his sword and the prophet bent down to drink. Tiereseus then tells him that anguish and hardship lie ahead and that poseidon is the one that will cause it because Oddyseus blinded his son Polyphemos the cyclops. He then says that Oddyseus will pass through a narrow straight that will take him home, and that Oddyseus will reach Thrinakia, the land of Helio's grazing cattle, where the sun god sees and hears everything. He says to avoid the cattle of the sun god and to stick with trying to get home, but if you butcher the cattle there will be destruction of ship and crew and only you will survive. Tiereseus then says that he will reach home on an unfamiliar ship only to find that men are in you home eating your food and trying to marry your wife. He then says that Oddyseus will kill these men either by stealth or open combat. He then tells Oddyseus that he will travel by land and sea to a landlocked place. The spot will be plain to you he says and the people will ask what kind of wheat sowing device you have. He tell Oddyseus that he will then jam the device, his oar, into the ground. Oddyseus is then told to make a sacrific to poseidon in the form of a ram, bull, buck boar. He tells Oddyseus to then go home and kill 100 pure cattle in the name of poseidon and all the gods. The final thing that Oddyseus is toldis that he will receive an easy death at sea will come to him when he is old, and then the prophet says that all that he has just said will be true as his journey home takes place.

Effective People, Communication and Information Essay
There are many different methods of communication. These can be divided into two different categories: Electronic (non-written), and Non-Electronic (written). Read more:à Reasons for communicationà essay Methods of communication that would come under Written Communication would be things like: * Letter * Memos * Reports * Fax * Invoices * Flow charts * Publicity materials * SMS (Text Message) Methods of communications that would come under Electronic Communication would be things along the lines of: * Telephone * Video conferencing * Meetings Both Written Communication and Electronic Communication have their advantages. These advantages differ depending on the audience which is being addressed. The recipient is very important when it comes to the type of communication that is being used. Within The Organisation Within the organisation the methods of communication that I would use would be things like: * Memos ââ¬â To help the staff members who are higher up on the food chain remember certain tasks that have set upon them. * Reports ââ¬â To view any progress or falls being happening within the organisation. Reports are a good way to do this as they are detailed. * Meetings ââ¬â In an organisation, it is inevitable that there will be meetings held. These are usually used to discuss improvement, the current status of the organisation, and to get staff to contribute their ideas. Customers These are the methods of communication that I would use to communicate with the customers: * Publicity Materials ââ¬â To tell the truth, this is an obvious one really. The way to get customers is through publicity. If your organisation is a well known one, it is more likely to prosper. * Advertisements ââ¬â In my opinion, advertisements should be used by all major and even small organisations. These should outline things like services provided and special offers to attract more customers. Suppliers Here are some of the methods of communications I would use to communicate with suppliers of goods etc.: * Letters ââ¬â These are a great way of communicating and people have been using them for centuries. I would use letters to communicate with suppliers because it is not a long time consuming method of communicating. You just write what you need to say, put it in an envelope, post it, and the recipient gets it the next day. * Telephone ââ¬â This is one of the simplest, most direct ways of communicating with people today. Talking with suppliers on the telephone would mean that all of the business involving matters like deliveries, times, amounts, and other things can all be sorted out in a matter of minutes.

Germanys Healthcare System Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3750 words
Germanys Healthcare System - Research Paper Example While it is a system not without faults, numbers do reveal it succeeds in enhancing overall quality of life where other systems fail. Some noted factors of why this system has worked so well can be seen in the fact the system is not a government run plan but a mandatory system carried by extracting funds directly from the workers. Regulations put forth by the government to maintain quality of care and services, but in some cases these regulations fail to serve their purpose. In all when the system is assessed alongside many countries who have similar plans and those who currently avoid a public option Germany proves to be a benchmark when it comes to healthcare. Germany notably has the oldest universal health care system in the world (Geyer, 2009). Everyone in Germany is promised high-quality comprehensive health care and over 90% of the population is covered under the universal option. Statutory health insurance has provided structure for the release of public health care, and has molded the payers positions, insurance, illness funds, suppliers, physicians, and hospitals since the Health Insurance Action was taken on in 1883. In 1885, medical defense has been provided for 26 per cent of the lower-paid labor force departments, or 10 per cent of their habitants. As with social insurance, health insurance exposure was gradually widened by including more work-related groups in the plan and by progressively lifting up the profits ceiling. In Richard Knox's article "Most Patience Happy with German Health Care," he talks about the German Health Care system and points out how it has matched up with Health Care provided in other countries over the years. In the article he notes, "The health care system that takes such good care of its citizens is not funded by government taxes. But it is compulsory (Knox, 2008)" Here Knox points out how it is a mandatory requirement for all citizens to have health care. Germany's system has historically become the benchmark for universal healthcare. This is the core element of the German Health Care System that defines what the world recognizes universal health care to be today.Germany's Plan Verses the U.S. Germany has caused many to make comparisons pertaining to healthcare systems. In most cases health statistics between Germany and the US don't match up and Germany wins out. When looking at the World Health Organization's Core Health Indicators, Germany has an 80year life expectancy to the United States' 78year life expectancy. Hospital beds available per 10000 people is 83 in Germany while it's 32 in the US, and there are 34 physicians per 10000 people in Germany verses the United States' 26.What are the socioeconomics of the population Are there population problems Germany has over 81 million inhabitants, with over 230 inhabitants per square kilometer. Urbanization is a major part of the population resting at a high
